THE PROJECT

Cosmos Made Conscious, a new body of jazz compositions by Paige Duggan (vocals, trumpet, guitar), sees her joined by a stellar band of some of Australia's finest jazz genre-bending musicians: Robbie Melville (guitar and effects), Zoe Frater (electric bass), Gideon Brazil (saxophones, flute and piano), Maddison Carter (drums and percussion).

This new album explores the connections between the universe and us. It includes some particularly reflective pieces allowing a meditative, contemplative space. Others are more lyrical and textural. Thoughtfulness, yet feeling is gathered in the moment, utilising the full diversity of sound only possible by musicians of this calibre and experience. A musical journey through the cosmos and our minds, life and human parallels to what we discover in the universe.

 

Alongside the music performance, Paige has also developed art-animation-film to be presented at live performances. Paired with the enveloping music, the visuals aim to engage and support an inclusive performance for people of all abilities.

BIO

Paige Duggan is a Ballarat based musician and composer whose compositions bend genres between jazz, the cinematic, contemporary folk and improvised art-scapes.

With more than 20 years as a performing musician and composer behind her, Paige is the Australian jazz artist you may never have heard of, but definitely should have.

Her performances, both musically and in her audience interaction, are full of thoughtful stories, vulnerability and heart felt expression.

 

Paige has released several recordings including an album of jazz standards, Indigo. She has appeared in a number of festivals including the main stage of Queenscliff Music Festival, White Night Ballarat and Castlemaine Jazz Festival and has performed in many venues including Paris Cat (Melbourne). Paige has been interviewed and performed live on ABC Tasmania and Western Victoria, JoyFM’s Bent Notes and other community radio stations. As well as these programs her recordings have also been heard on ABC Jazz’s Jazztrack, RN’s Inside Sleeve, ABC’s Home Cooked and many community radio stations across Australia. 

She is also a qualified visual artist and is heavily involved in community work in Ballarat. She lives with a disability, is a single mother to 3 children and is a member of the LGBTIQ+ community.

TECHNICAL DETAILS

Paige is also producing animation/film art to be presented with the music. These will be presented at live performances and online. As an artist with a disability Paige also aims to make her performances as all abilities engaging and  inclusive as possible.

 

Performance space requires:

-A piano

-Preferably some way to project or display (such as a large screen) the animation-art-film.

 

The program is best divided into two 45min sets to allow Paige to discuss the pieces and for expression in soloing to be fully explored.
